Tralee Bypass claims yet more owls

The toll continues to rise on the Tralee Bypass: yet another Barn Owl and now a Long-eared Owl have been found dead along this 13.5 km stretch of road, the third and fourth owl victims in just a few months.

• November 2013 - Barn Owl killed on the Tralee Bypass.
• February 2014 - Barn Owl killed on the Tralee Bypass.
• March 2014 - Barn Owl and Long-eared Owl killed within two days of each other on Tralee Bypass.

These are the birds we know of, leaving us to wonder how many more have succumbed along this stretch of road? As Barn Owls have a range of 5 to 7 km from their nest site, it is possible that the bypass alone could eliminate breeding pairs of Barn Owls for many square km around Tralee.
